Collect-A-Con returns to Dallas on October 24–25, and a little preparation can help you come home with cards you are glad to own. Whether you are filling a Pokémon binder, looking for a favorite character or bringing your first trade binder, make a short list of worthwhile finds and leave some room for a surprise.
The organizer advertises more than 900 vendor tables across Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Lorcana, sports cards and pop culture. That gives you plenty to browse; what is available to buy or trade will depend on the individual tables.
Check the trip before the card hunt
The show is at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas, Exhibit Hall B, 650 S Griffin St, Dallas, TX 75202. General admission runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. These are local Dallas times, in the Central time zone.
Use the official ticket page to check the current admission options and full checkout total. The venue’s directions and parking guide can help you plan the journey. Check the organizer’s latest panel and celebrity schedules before building a trip around an appearance.
Give the want list an exact version
A useful want list includes the set, collector number, language, finish and any edition or stamp you care about, with a reference image when possible. Put the cards you most want at the top so a busy table does not turn your afternoon into a memory test. Two cards can share artwork and still be different versions; our Pokémon holo and reverse-holo guide explains one common distinction.
Decide how much wear you are comfortable with before the excitement of finding the card takes over. A favorite for a binder may be worth buying with a little edge wear, while a display card might call for a cleaner example. Use our condition guide to prepare, ask permission before handling a card, and inspect the front, back, corners, edges and surface. A seller’s label is a starting point for that conversation. Our grading guide can help you understand the terms without promising a future grade.
Bring trades you are happy to trade
Keep the cards you want to show off separate from the cards you are comfortable giving up. Short notes about version and condition make a trade binder easier to discuss, and asking whether a table trades before opening it saves both of you time. Before agreeing, confirm the specific cards and any cash involved. It is fine to keep browsing if the deal does not suit you.
Leave room for lunch and protect the finds
Set the card budget after allowing for admission, transport, parking and food. A small allowance for an unplanned find gives you room to enjoy the show without turning every interesting card into an exception. Pack sleeves, rigid holders, a secure binder, a charged phone and an offline copy of your want list so your new cards and your plan make it through the day together.
