An underwater city, strange creatures and a whole new foil hunt: Nauctis: The Sunken Realm arrives on February 5, 2027, with changes to the packs Magic collectors open. Play Boosters become Booster Packs, and traditional-foil Japan Showcase cards can appear in their wildcard slot. Wizards announced the changes on October 5, 2026. The first detail to remember is simple: an ordinary pack will no longer promise a foil.

Foxy's dive notes: know the pack before the plunge

Foxy puts on diving goggles for the Nauctis foil hunt: regular packs lose their foil guarantee; Collector Boosters shrink by three cards; God Packs remain a rare surprise. Original FoilFox illustration and summary.

Foxy brought the goggles; you bring the wish list. If a particular piece of art has caught your eye, check the exact card and finish before choosing a pack. Booster Packs and Collector Boosters still contain random cards. A God Pack is a surprise, and buying a box does not promise one.

What happens to the foil in a regular pack?

Regular Booster Packs lose their guaranteed foil. They will no longer contain foil commons or uncommons; any foil they contain will be rare or mythic rare. Traditional-foil Japan Showcase cards join the possible wildcard pulls. Wizards says foil rare and mythic drop rates will increase, but has not supplied those new percentages in this announcement.

How do Collector Boosters change?

Collector Boosters lose two foil commons and one foil uncommon without replacement, leaving them three cards smaller. Some foil commons and uncommons remain in Collector Boosters. If you collect a complete foil set, check the product-specific contents rather than assuming the regular pack's new rules apply here too.

The rare surprise: what is a God Pack?

God Packs debut in Magic Multiverse sets with Nauctis. Universes Beyond God Packs are expected sometime in 2028. These are special packs filled with rares and mythics, plus a celebration card. The diagrams below are Wizards' schematic examples of the contents, including the celebratory insert; they are not revealed Nauctis card faces or product photographs. Open either image to inspect the full diagram.

Regular God Pack: 14 rares or mythics

Regular God Pack — 14 rare or mythic rare cards plus a celebration card; 1 per 1,000 regular Booster Packs. Full schematic contents diagram: Wizards of the Coast, October 5, 2026.
Regular God Pack — 14 rare or mythic rare cards plus a celebration card; 1 per 1,000 regular Booster Packs. Full schematic contents diagram: Wizards of the Coast, October 5, 2026.

The regular God Pack contains 14 rare or mythic rare cards, plus a celebration card. Wizards' diagram splits those 14 into ten non-foil cards with default frames, two non-foil Booster Fun cards and two traditional-foil Booster Fun cards. Booster Fun is Magic's umbrella for special card treatments and artwork.

Publisher's rate: one God Pack per 1,000 regular Booster Packs. That is a rate across packs, not a guaranteed hit after opening a particular number.

Collector God Pack: 11 rares or mythics and a foil land

Collector God Pack — 11 rares or mythics, a foil land and a celebration card; 1 per 300 Collector Boosters. Full schematic contents diagram: Wizards of the Coast, October 5, 2026.
Collector God Pack — 11 rares or mythics, a foil land and a celebration card; 1 per 300 Collector Boosters. Full schematic contents diagram: Wizards of the Coast, October 5, 2026.

The Collector God Pack contains 11 rare or mythic rare cards, a foil land and a celebration card. The 11 are three foil cards with default frames, three non-foil Booster Fun cards and five foil Booster Fun cards.

Publisher's rate: one God Pack per 300 Collector Boosters. Both rates are pack-level figures, with no box or case guarantee. If one particular artwork or finish is your goal, compare the exact single with the sealed product before deciding how to collect it.

Does the suggested price change?

Wizards says the changes bring no increase in the manufacturer's suggested retail price, or MSRP. That does not fix the price a retailer charges. Check the store's all-in price and the exact set, language and product before buying.

What if you open a God Pack at an event?

At a Limited event, stop and call the judge or organizer if you open a God Pack. WPN recommends letting the opener keep it and supplying a free replacement from the same set. Local organizers retain discretion, including for casual events; replacement is mandatory at competitive events where Wizards provides the product.
