What comes in each Ashes of the Empire product?
Play Booster
This is where the regular set comes from. Nonfoil Prestige cards also appear in about one in every 18 standard booster packs, following the pack changes introduced with A Lawless Time.
Carbonite Edition Booster
This is the collector pack, with a Hyperspace or Showcase leader and a guaranteed Prestige card, which can be nonfoil, foil or serialized. Foil and serialized Prestige tiers are exclusive to Carbonite. Serialized copies carry a number out of 250, 100 or 50, depending on the card, so check the actual stamp when buying one.
Spotlight decks
A ready-to-play deck with four cards you cannot get from booster packs. The leaders inside are still Ashes of the Empire leaders, so look them up by leader name and set.
Prerelease box
A box tied to a dated prerelease event and made to be opened there, which makes it a good way to learn the format.
How do the boxes compare?
Fantasy Flight Games sells Star Wars: Unlimited in two kinds of booster: Play Boosters for building the regular set and Carbonite Edition for its premium versions. The table shows what each product holds and who it suits.
| Product | What’s inside | Extras | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
Play Booster Box | 24 packs | A leader and a Hyperspace-foil card in every pack; nonfoil Prestige appears in about 1 in 18 packs | Draft, sealed play, completing the regular set and finding nonfoil Prestige |
Carbonite Edition Box | 12 packs | One Prestige card per pack; exclusive foil and serialized Prestige tiers; no reprints | Chasing Hyperspace, Showcase and the higher Prestige tiers |
Spotlight Decks | 50-card deck | Four cards you cannot get from booster packs | Playing right away and owning the deck-only cards |
Prerelease Box | 6 packs | Prerelease extras for the event | Prerelease weekend at your local game store |
Which Ashes cards are easy to mix up?
Darth Vader — Meet Your Destiny
$5.53TCGplayer market estimate
The Endor-era Vader is a unit, so it has no Showcase version. It comes as the regular Special card, Hyperspace, Hyperspace foil, and Prestige versions including a serialized one, all with the Meet Your Destiny subtitle, so check which one a listing is selling.
Luke Skywalker — I Can Save Him
$4.98TCGplayer market estimate
Luke returns in this era as a leader. A leader has two sides, the leader side and the unit it flips into, and both belong to one card, while his Showcase version is a premium version of that same card.
The Mandalorian — Devoted Rescuer
$14.92TCGplayer market estimate
Ashes adds Mandalorian tokens, but the serialized Prestige Devoted Rescuer is the collectible. Keep token cards separate from the Mandalorian unit.
