Proving Grounds
The board-game-style way to start, with a rulebook, playmats and tokens. Its champion cards are numbered in their own Proving Grounds set (OGS), so Origins boosters will not give you those versions.
Champion Deck (Jinx, Lee Sin, or Viktor)
One legend, one play style and one booster pack, ready to upgrade with singles. Buy all three only if you want all three legends in your collection.
How the Origins products compare
Riot Games made three kinds of Origins product: one that teaches the game, a ready-made deck, and a booster box for chasing rare cards. The table compares their prices and what comes inside.
| Product | List price | Packs or decks | Cost per pack | What is inside | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Booster Box | $120.00 | 24 packs (14 cards/pack) | $5.00 / pack | Each pack has 7 commons, 3 uncommons, 2 rare-or-better cards, 1 foil and 1 rune or token | Opening for Signature Ahri and completing the master set |
Proving Grounds | — | 4 preconstructed decks | Boxed set | Annie, Garen, Lux and Master Yi decks, rulebook, playmats and tokens | Learning the game with up to four players |
Champion Deck | $19.99 | 1 deck + 1 booster pack | Ready-made deck | A preconstructed Jinx, Lee Sin or Viktor deck and one Origins booster | Jumping into local play |
Buy a booster box if you want the chase cards
Riot calls cards numbered after 298 overnumbered cards, and about one in ten of them is a Signature, stamped with a foil copy of the artist’s signature and marked with an asterisk after the number. Ahri, Nine-Tailed Fox exists as a regular card inside the main set, as the overnumbered #303 and as the Signature #303*, so a listing that only says “Ahri” has not told you which one you are buying.
Riot’s organized play also hands out metal versions of some legends, such as prize-wall cards, and those promos are a separate series from the Origins set.
